چکیده

In this article we consider weak solutions of the three-dimensional incompressible fluid flow equations with initial data admitting a one-dimensional symmetry group. We examine both the viscous and inviscid cases. For the case of viscous flows, we prove that Leray-Hopf weak solutions of the threedimensional Navier-Stokes equations preserve initially imposed symmetry and that such symmetric flows are stable under general three-dimensional perturbations, globally in time. We work in three different contexts: two-and-a-halfdimensional, helical and axi-symmetric flows. In the inviscid case, we observe that, as a consequence of recent work by De Lellis and Székelyhidi, there are genuinely three-dimensional weak solutions of the Euler equations with twodimensional initial data. We also present two partial results where restrictions on the set of initial data, and on the set of admissible solutions rule out spontaneous symmetry breaking; one is due to P.-L. Lions and the other is a consequence of our viscous stability result. MSC Subject Classifications: 35Q35, 65M70.

Three-dimensional characteristic approach for incompressible thermo-flows and influence of artificial compressibility parameter

In this paper the characteristics of unsteady three-dimensional incompressible flows with heat transfer are obtained along with artificial compressibility of Chorin. At first, compatibility equations and pseudo characteristics for three-dimensional flows are derived from five governing equations (continuity equation, Momentum equations in three directions, and energy equation) and then results ...

A Composite Finite Difference Scheme for Subsonic Transonic Flows (RESEARCH NOTE).

This paper presents a simple and computationally-efficient algorithm for solving steady two-dimensional subsonic and transonic compressible flow over an airfoil. This work uses an interactive viscous-inviscid solution by incorporating the viscous effects in a thin shear-layer. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the Navier-Stokes equations to a parabolic set of coupled, non-linear partial diff...

On the planar extensional motion of an inertially driven liquid sheet

We derive a time-dependent exact solution of the free surface problem for the Navier–Stokes equations that describes the planar extensional motion of a viscous sheet driven by inertia. The linear stability of the exact solution to oneand two-dimensional symmetric perturbations is examined in the inviscid and viscous limits within the framework of the long-wave or slender body approximation. A bifurcation study of the three-dimensional thermohaline ocean circulation: The double hemispheric case

Within a low-resolution primitive-equation model of the three-dimensional ocean circulation, a bifurcation analysis is performed of double-hemispheric basin flows. Main focus is on the connection between results for steady two-dimensional flows in a nonrotating basin and those for threedimensional flows in a rotating basin. With the use of continuation methods, branches of steady states are fol...

Experimental Study and Three-Dimensional Numerical Flow Simulation in a Centrifugal Pump when Handling Viscous Fluids

In this paper the centrifugal pump performances are tested when handling water and viscous oils as Newtonian fluids. Also, this paper shows a numerical simulation of the three-dimensional fluid flow inside a centrifugal pump. For these numerical simulations the SIMPLEC algorithm is used for solving governing equations of incompressible viscous/turbulent flows through the pump. The k-ε turbulenc...
